The book Heart of Darkness is based on first hand experience Conrad had in the Congo region of W. Africa. Conrad was actually sent up the Congo River to an inner station to rescue and agent. Illness forced Conrad’s return home after only six months in Africa, but that was long enough for intense impressions to have been formed.   The Heart of Darkness is Very Thought Provoking!! When I had to read this book for class, I wanted to cry. It was so dry and long that I considered dropping the class to be able to actually live without the pai 4/5.
